Risk to Astronauts

 Risk to Astronauts

The astronauts go through extensive physical and mental training for at least two years to prepare them for some of the ailments they could be faced with, such as those caused by the environment. "Astronauts face environmental temperatures that cause hypothermia and frost formation, especially in the mouth" (Williams 3).

Aside from the cold, the greatest danger to their health is radiation, causing improper brain function and other related brain diseases. "Astronauts would be suffering from radiation-related health problems before they even arrive on Mars" (Williams).

Astronauts may also face muscle and bone density loss, along with loss of eyesight, genetic changes, and long term cardiovascular an circulatory issues.

Another issue is the psychological toll, such as anxiety, insomnia, and depression experienced by astronauts confined to a spacecraft. NASA is working to develop programs to mitigate these risks. The astronauts go through extensive physical and mental training for at least two years to prepare them for some of the ailments they could be faced with, such as those caused by the environment.
